Lampwork Glass Beads

January 3rd, 2009 WendyLee

Well over the holidays I have been playing on the torch again. It has been a long time since I have done any lampworking and it was nice to get back into it.

Before Christmas I ordered a bit of glass to put aside and play with over these christmas holidays. I ordered the new limited edition colours from Vetrofond with really funky names like

*Frog Swamp
*Jungle Twilight
*HoneyCrunch
*Bloody Mary
*Painted Desert

Thats to name just a few. They are very interesting glasses to play with as they seem to be made up of a mix of glass and some have silver in them such as the Fossil. When you melt these glasses in the flame you get a nice swirly streaky outcome.

The Cool Colours from Morretti have the same funky names with also the same cool outcomes of swirls and streaks.

*American Beauty
*Venetian Sunrise
*Cherry Shake
*Hawaiin Clay

The names are so descriptive in themselves. I didn’t make anything technically challenging or mindblowing I just made plain beads as I wanted to see what the glass would do by itself before I started to add other colours or garnishes to it. I always do this when I get a batch of new glass, I will make plain old beads with it by itself first, It also helps me to see how fussy a colour will be, whether I need to do anything special to it whilst working with it.

Sandblasted Cabochons

I was experimenting with sandblasting glass cabochons. Fusing cabochons with various layers of dichroic glass, art glass and enamels. Using a resist I then sandblasted a pattern into the glass. I have then firepolished the glass as I didn;t like the matt finish on these 2 cabs.
